I love movies that mix genres. Kevin Rice and I (who are writing Hercules: The Beginning for current Mr. Universe Alexander Nevsky) wrote a Horror/Western screenplay that we’re really proud of (and which is currently in the hands of one of my all-time favorite actors who wants to help us find a home for it, and that’s all I can say about that right now, because I want to say everything about it right now), and the first thing we decided when we sat down to write it was, “It doesn’t matter how silly the idea sounds on paper. Let’s just make it as great as we can make it, and see what happens.”
It looks like everyone involved in making next summer’s Cowboys & Aliens took the same approach with some truly amazing looking results.
My favorite James Bond ever, Daniel Craig (Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace), is cowboy Jake Lonergan, who wakes up in the middle of an Old West desert with some kind of strange metal contraption strapped to his wrist and no memory of how he — or it — got there. Apparently he’s done something to anger the ruthless Colonel Dolarhyde, played by my all-time favorite actor Harrison Ford.
Gorgeous Ella (Olivia Wilde, looking wildly ravishing as always) seems to know more about Jake than he knows about himself, but will he have time to figure it all out before the goddamn Martians arrive?
Jon Favreau (Iron Man, Iron Man 2) directs!

War of the Worlds meets Tombstone? Yes, please. Movies like this are proof that even the most outrageous concepts can work as long as the talent is solid. And there’s a lot of talent in front of and behind these cameras. Also starring Sam Rockwell! Clancy Brown! Walton Goggins! And the list goes on.
Cowboys & Aliens opens June 10, 2011!
WANT. That is all.
