JUSTIFIED boss Graham Yost teases fourth season tidbits

JUSTIFIED show runner Graham Yost (IMDb), pictured above with Ava Crowder herself, Miss Joelle Carter, talked a little about the fourth season at the New York Television Festival last night, and Entertainment Weekly has all the highlights.

He gives some new information about Constable Bob, the character Patton Oswalt is playing, and reveals that four episodes have been written with another two percolating in the pipeline.

Neither Dickie Bennett nor Dewey Crowe have popped up in the stories so far, and another segment of Raylan Givens creator Elmore Leonard’s novel RAYLAN will be adapted in some form or another for the new season, though Yost wouldn’t reveal which one.

He also says he sees the series ending after its sixth season. Obviously we’d be happy to have this show around forever, but it’s always good to go out on a high note, and Yost says he wouldn’t want the show to ever become “Elmore light,” which I respect.

From a writing standpoint, he also shares some entertaining insights into his Hollywood career, including humble, humorous stories about writing SPEED and courting Johnny Depp for what became the Christian Slater role in BROKEN ARROW. Be sure to click the link and give it a read!

Meanwhile, FX has been running this new promo promising a January 2013 premiere. (This year’s season started on January 17, so I’m sure it’ll be somewhere in that vicinity.)

And, for those of us who can’t wait to own Raylan’s third season adventures on Blu-ray, we’ll be able to buy that set on December 31, which seems kind of ridiculous since you’d think they’d want it out in time for Christmas. Oh, well. You can see the poorly airbrushed cover art at Blu-ray Dot Com.

Harry Lennix mentions MAN OF STEEL in new interview

While making the publicity rounds about his starring role in a critically acclaimed new film, MR. SOPHISTICATION, actor Harry Lennix shared some bits about his experience playing General Swanwick in next summer’s number one movie (for me, at least), MAN OF STEEL, with the Chicago Tribune.

This is all he could say about his character and the plot:

“I shot in Vancouver and central California, which was great. I had a great time on it. But I wasn’t part of the Chicago end of it. I can tell you that General Swanwick is a U.S. Army general and he’s the head of Northcom, Northern Command. Outside of that I’m prohibited from saying anything (laughs).”

Fair enough! We’d rather see it all play out on the big screen anyway. But! He did have some kind things to say about Henry Cavill and the cast …

“But I can tell you that the guy they have as Superman is Superman. He’s fantastic. I really like Henry Cavill. I think it’s a very good cast. I’m as excited as anyone else to see the movie.”

… and about what Superman means to him:

“Superman has always been my favorite superhero. I like Spider-Man too and all. I was never that big on Batman, but I really loved Superman from day one and will never forget the experience of seeing SUPERMAN with Christopher Reeve. It was a profound experience in my mind. I loved that. I think if I could be a superhero — I’ve never really actually thought about that. Frankly, I would love to be Superman (laughs). Except that’s not going to happen at this point, I’m pretty sure.”

(I’m not so sure about that, Mr. Lennix, as you look an awfully lot like the alternate universe Superman who saved the day in ACTION COMICS #9.)

MAN OF STEEL soars into the theater near YOU on June 14, 2013!

Eldard joins JUSTIFIED as Crowder’s newest commando

It’s been almost two weeks since I wrote about new characters we can expect to see on JUSTIFIED, which is current filming its fourth season in Santa Clarita, California, for an early 2013 premiere on FX.

Michael Ausiello, who continues to have more scoop than Baskin Robbins, reported exclusively at TV Line today that actor Ron Eldard (IMDb) has been cast in the role of Colt, “a violent, dark-humored and rule-bending sergeant with the military police.”

Colt, who’ll be a recurring character, served in Desert Storm, Iraq, and Afghanistan. He befriended Boyd Crowder (played far beyond our perceived notions of perfection by Walton Goggins) during the many times he served as Boyd’s jailer during his stint as an M.P. in Kuwait.

I recognize him best as Louis Dainard, the dad of Elle Fanning’s Alice, in SUPER 8, which he was awesome in. And it wasn’t an easy role, either, since he had to convince not only the other characters but also the audience to forgive what he did that drove so much of that movie’s emotional core.

Any day now we should be finding out who’s playing Boyd’s new nemesis, Billy St. Cyr, and Raylan’s potential new love interest, the Knoxville bail bonds-woman Sharon Edmunds. Can’t wait!
