As I’ve said before, the first reaction I had to the first time I saw Emma Stone on screen in Superbad was, “This girl is Mary Jane Watson.” No offense to Kirsten Dunst, who was just fine for the version of Mary Jane in director Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movies opposite Tobey Maguire, but Stone just has that extra something that makes her the girl you’ll never forget.
I was admittedly puzzled, then, when she was cast instead as platinum blonde Gwen Stacy in director Marc Webb’s upcoming Spider-Man reboot starring Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker. The fact of the matter is that Stone is actually a natural blonde, but I’ve always been used to seeing her with red hair. Not that it matters. Going back to the “girl you’ll never forget” notion, Emma Stone is indeed that. She’ll be perfect.
Just Jared has a pretty killer gallery of Stone with her hair newly dyed blonde for the imminent commencing of Spider-Man filming. Check it out and see why Andrew Garfield’s job of selling Peter’s love for Gwen just got a whole lot easier.
The Gwen sketch at the end is by Tim Sale, who did the art for one of my all-time favorite comic book stories and certainly my favorite Peter/Gwen tale — Spider-Man: Blue. Look for a copy at your local comic shop, and tell George that John Bierly sent you!
