Did you vote today? I hope so. To celebrate democracy in action, I wanted to share these amazing new photos of Chris Evans as Captain America in the new movie scheduled for release on July 22, 2011. I still don’t know why they’re not releasing this on the Fourth of July, but hey, nobody asked me.

Anyway, the photos look absolutely amazing. Evans looks perfect for the part; he’s got confidence and charisma to burn, and he played a strong leadership role in Sunshine.

I also like how this is World War II with a twist. It’s the World War II of the Marvel movie universe, with a fantasy element that has more in common with Hellboy and Indiana Jones than with Saving Private Ryan, for example.

Director Joe Johnston made The Rocketeer, and this has that same kind of whiz-bang retro look to it. I can’t wait to see it!

(The silly looking feet are “stunt feet” to make it look like he’s chasing the bad guys without shoes on, which is something we can all agree that Captain America can do.)

Having spent a lot of time as a kid running around our yard in Captain America Underoos with a trash can lid as my shield, I am very, very excited about this movie.
