Variety is reporting that Oscar-winning actor Jim Broadbent has joined the cast of next summer’s fourth installment of the Indiana Jones series.
He’ll be playing a Yale professor.
You can check out Broadbent’s credits here. Most viewers will recognize him as Bridget Jones’s dad from the Bridget Jones movies — Bridget Jones … Indiana Jones … interesting — and from his roles in Gangs of New York (as Boss Tweed!) and Moulin Rouge.
He joins Harrison Ford, Shia LaBeouf (rumored to be playing Indy’s son), Ray Winstone (rumored to be playing Indy’s sidekick), Cate Blanchett (rumored to be playing the villain, which is infinitely sexy), John Hurt (rumored to be playing Albert Einstein) and hopefully, possibly, maybe Karen Allen (who’d be reprising her role as Marion Ravenwood from Raiders of the Lost Ark).
Sean Connery has confirmed that he will not be returning as Dr. Henry Jones, Sr.
Having just watched Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade last night, that makes me very sad.
Oh, well.
Indiana Jones will use a bad Scottish accent to ask the theater manager near you to see the tapestries — and then punch him in the face! — on May 22, 2008!
